January 2025 recorded the highest temperatures ever, according to Copernicus. This surge undermines hopes of cooling effects from La Niña, driven largely by human activity.

January 2025 Breaks Heat Records Worldwide

The past month of January was the hottest, according to the European Meteorological Monitoring Center 'Copernicus' in its entire observation history. This raises concerns that the manifestation of the La-Niña climate phenomenon will not prevent the continuation of the unprecedented record high temperatures, conditioned by global warming due to human activity.

According to the words of the acting director of the climate change service within the 'Copernicus' program (C3S) Samantha Burgees, which was published yesterday, 'January 2025 will be another outstanding month, during which the high temperature records established in the last two years will continue, regardless of the developing climatic conditions of the La-Niña phenomenon in the tropical Pacific Ocean and current cooling, triggered at the global level'.

According to the given 'Copernicus', the average temperature in January 2025 was 13.23 degrees Celsius and exceeded the norm of the pre-industrial era by 1.75 degrees Celsius.
