Remembering Hala Al-Midani: A Life in Dubai

One of my aunts lived in Dubai. We always missed her, but the love she found made her stay and not leave this beautiful emirate. Thus begins the memory of Lana Meidan, the descendant of the deceased Halla Meidan, known as "the Syrian Halla." The Halla family was a shame, consisting of four members, and they all inherited the love for animals from their aunt. Her love for cats was her passion, and she always fed the birds. Halla visited Damascus for all two years for 54 years, spent in Dubai, and Lana notes that the descendant was an extraordinary woman of her time. Meidan says that Dubai is a homeland that loves and respects people. She expresses gratitude to the head of the state of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for his support when Halla Meidan left life. The family in which Halla grew up was also uplifted by Lana. She recounts how Halla was an unusual woman who loved life and animals. Her marriage to an Englishman ended in divorce, but she remained in Dubai after that. Halla was a yoga teacher for expatriates and loved birds. Lana emphasizes that during the war in Syria, the connection with Halla became weaker, and her relatives could not visit her. Reminiscing about her aunt, Lana describes her as a beautiful, intelligent, and kind woman. She notes that Halla was always ready to send gifts to her relatives in Syria. Of course, such loss was a heavy burden for the whole family, but Lana expresses pride in how the people of Dubai honored the memory of their loved one.
