The bear's courtyard is excluded from the number of trapped bears undergoing rare and dangerous surgery in the brain in October of last year. The courtyard bear named Buki, who lives in the Wildwood Trust Park in Kent, England, turned out to be in "excellent, happy, and healthy condition." He is three years old. The bear suffered from seizures, which were considered a consequence of hydrocephalus (fluid buildup in the brain), according to information from the British agency B Media.
It was decided that the surgery on the brain was the best option for Buki. The surgery lasted five hours and took place on October 9 of last year, making him the first bear in the world to be registered with a shunt that underwent surgical intervention. The representative of the Wildwood announced that the bear "has recovered ideally" and that the medical treatment provided did not cause any adverse side effects before he fell into a stupor.
The head of the bear department at Wildwood, John Ford, noted that Buki's recovery from the condition is a key step in his rehabilitation.
