This morning, the second edition of the UAE Conference on Sports Medicine began, organized by the Emirates Society of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Dubai's Medical City. The conference brings together a select group of leading specialists and experts from within the country and abroad.
The conference will span two days, featuring scientific lectures, workshops, and an accompanying exhibition that highlights the latest technologies and medical equipment in sports medicine, physical therapy, nutrition, and artificial intelligence in sports performance.
Over 600 specialists from various countries are participating, along with 53 lecturers from more than 25 nations, representing the best professionals from hospitals, medical centers, and universities. The program includes five workshops and 66 presentations of research and applied papers, as well as 17 sponsors and exhibitors from specialized companies showcasing the latest devices and technologies in sports medicine and rehabilitation.
Dr. Abdullah Al Rahoomi, President of the Emirates Society of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, told "Al Ittihad" newspaper that the second edition follows the great success of the first, confirming that the conference has become a specialized scientific platform bringing experts, doctors, and researchers under one roof to discuss the latest innovations in sports medicine.
He added that this year's conference marks a qualitative leap in participation size and research paper quality, as the organizing committee received hundreds of applications from lecturers and researchers worldwide to join conference sessions, reflecting the academic and professional reputation the event has quickly gained.
He noted that this edition focused on expanding participation to include various sports medicine-related specialties, such as rehabilitation technologies, regenerative medicine, and AI in sports, aiming to enrich scientific discussions and knowledge-sharing among participants.
Al Rahoomi affirmed that the conference has become a global scientific platform through which the Society aims to highlight the UAE's role in advancing medical and scientific progress, stating: "We aspire for this conference to be listed among the world's most important international specialized sports medicine conferences in the coming years and to serve as a platform for developing national talent and training a new generation of specialized doctors in this field."
He continued: "We place great emphasis on the practical and applied aspects, which is why we've dedicated several interactive workshops allowing participants hands-on experience with the latest methods for diagnosing and treating sports injuries, as well as prevention and rehabilitation techniques, thereby enhancing the competence of healthcare professionals."
He added: "The conference also serves as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between local and international universities and research centers," confirming that the Society continuously builds partnerships with leading medical and research institutions worldwide to exchange knowledge and expertise.
Concluding his remarks, Al Rahoomi said: "Our greatest pride is that this conference is organized entirely by Emirati hands, both scientifically and organizationally, reflecting the high competence of Emiratis in leading global scientific events. We are also working to make the conference a sustainable annual event that aligns with the nation's ambitions to become a regional hub for medical and scientific innovation."
Conference topics include technology and AI in sports, sports development, performance testing, women in sports, regenerative medicine, Paralympic sports, and other contemporary issues.
