81-Year-Old Grandmother Becomes YouTuber to Support Grandson's Cancer Battle

An 81-year-old British woman from Jeddah has become a gaming content creator on YouTube to support her 17-year-old grandson, Jack Silf, in his battle with cancer. Su Jakoot launched a channel called Gramma Crackers after learning about the game Minecraft thanks to her grandchildren. The goal was to raise funds to cover Jack's medical expenses, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2024. Su Jakoot said: 'I wasn't interested in it at first, but when you have grandchildren who want to interact with you, you do it.' Her first video garnered over 500,000 views, and the channel now has more than 100,000 subscribers. Donations ranged from one to five thousand dollars. 'We were all amazed by the generosity of the community and its support.' The assistance was not limited to money alone; it also included prayers and words of encouragement from the gaming community. Jack Silf said: 'It was very nice to see all this kindness from everyone towards me, me and my grandmother.' The family recently received good news: it was announced that Jack had recovered from cancer. He confirmed: 'I am now cancer-free.' Su Jakoot's project evolved from just a way to connect with her grandchildren into a source of hope and support for the family, adding: 'It's incredible.' Additionally, a campaign on GoFundMe raised about $35,000. Her other grandson, Austin Silf, expressed his surprise at the scale of the support: 'It was like a dream.'
