Saffron is one of the most important natural spices that enhances memory and strengthens the nervous system due to its active compounds beneficial for the nervous system and mental health. A recent scientific study published in the journal "Lenta.ru" showed that saffron extract is useful for supporting memory, reducing anxiety, and improving metabolism with age. During the study, researchers examined the effects of a standardized saffron extract containing precisely measured amounts of the two main active compounds in the plant, safranal and crocin. They conducted experiments on aged mice to discover the effects of this extract on memory, increased anxiety, and metabolic disorders. It was found that when added to food, the extract enters the bloodstream and exerts beneficial effects on the aforementioned functions. Scientists discovered that high doses of this extract reduce anxiety rates and help the brain recognize new things and information, which is an indicator of improved memory function. These changes were accompanied by a reorganization of brain signaling molecules related to stress, emotions, and neural plasticity. Meanwhile, according to the researchers, low doses of saffron extract helped slow down age-related weight loss and affected the genes regulating fat metabolism in the liver. The researchers pointed out that the results they obtained are based on a study conducted on animals, so they cannot be relied upon before conducting clinical trials on humans. A previous study had also indicated that saffron helps reduce inflammation and improve mood in patients with Parkinson's disease.
Study: Saffron Improves Memory and Reduces Anxiety
A new scientific study has proven that saffron extract is beneficial for supporting memory, reducing anxiety, and improving metabolism in the elderly. However, further clinical trials on humans are necessary.
