Cybersecurity Warning in UAE Amid Rising Threats

Managers in technology companies warn users about the necessity of not disclosing their "ordinary" personal data, such as strings of expired identity documents or credit cards, or codes found on the back side of the card. They noted that hackers collect information in various stages and use it to obtain more valuable data for compromising users' accounts. The main and most persistent threat, according to them, is cybercrime through electronic mail and phishing.

The head of experts on technology in the region of the Middle East, Turkey and Africa at Kaspersky, Imad El-Hafar, noted that the increase in the number of digital services in the institutions of the region has introduced new challenges, increasing the likelihood of being subjected to cyberattacks and strengthening the need for essential cybersecurity systems accompanying digital transformations. This year saw a global increase in federal attacks.

On the other hand, the main regional manager for engineering solutions in Eastern Arabia, Turkey and Africa at SentinelOne, Azeddin Hussein, pointed out that the rapid digital transformation in the region and the world has expanded the space for cyberattacks and increased the complexity of security, as digital infrastructure has become a primary target for threats. These companies, based on available analytics and digital applications, are facing new challenges in protecting data and ensuring business continuity, which requires complex security strategies based on advanced instruments.

The manager of cybersecurity at the technology company Tenable, Valid An-Natur, noted that the expansion of the usage of Internet technology has created greater opportunities for cyberattacks, requiring robust security measures to protect systems from cyber threats and ensure the integrity and reliability of operations.

In the same context, the regional manager for the Middle East and Africa at Proofpoint, Emile Abusalek, noted that the increase in digital transformation has a dual effect, as with the emergence of each new platform or technological solution, a new type of cyber risk arises, aimed at these technologies. Cybercrime through electronic mail and phishing is perceived as the most serious and persistent threat. He also mentioned that the increased popularity of generative artificial intelligence creates a multitude of risks, as some companies are increasingly integrating sensitive data into these applications, which may lead to potential vulnerabilities in security.
