Dubai RTA Launches Initiatives for Cleaner Taxis

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is dedicated to promoting a clean and sustainable transport environment to enhance the taxi service experience for all users. Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at the Public Transport Agency, RTA, highlighted the initiatives aimed at achieving this goal.

According to Shakri, the initiatives focus on intensifying awareness and training programs for drivers, instructors, and taxi companies. This includes encouraging drivers to maintain vehicle cleanliness and providing them with uniforms. A pilot phase has been launched to use high-quality air fresheners in over 500 airport taxis, while AI-based monitoring will detect smoking through in-car cameras.

The RTA also plans to conduct inspection campaigns to promote vehicle cleanliness further. One of the major steps taken is the implementation of a metric to assess the impact of new cleanliness standards initiatives. Customer satisfaction surveys and mystery shopper assessments will focus on vehicle and driver cleanliness, conducted semi-annually from 2025.

Shakri emphasized that these efforts are part of RTA’s continuous commitment to improve transportation services in Dubai, ensuring a safer and more comfortable journey for all passengers. The initiatives and measures introduced by RTA aim to enhance taxi service performance throughout the emirate, prioritizing passenger experience, comfort, and safety.

These initiatives align with Dubai's vision of a clean and sustainable environment and reflect RTA's dedication to innovation and excellence in providing services that meet the expectations of residents and visitors. The introduction of a monthly operational index covering vehicle and driver cleanliness, along with tracking observations per 100,000 Hala Taxi trips related to cleanliness, is a significant step towards maintaining high standards in the taxi sector.
