Dubai Introduces Flexible Work Policy for Ramadan

The Dubai Government has approved a new flexible working hours and remote work policy for government employees during Ramadan 2025, enhancing employee well-being and productivity.

Dubai Introduces Flexible Work Policy for Ramadan

Under the guidance of His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the heir apparent of Dubai, replacing the Prime Minister, Minister of Human Resources and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, the Dubai Department of Government Human Resources approved a flexible work schedule and remote work policy for government employees during the holy month of Ramadan 1446 in the Hijri calendar (2025 in the Gregorian calendar).

This decision corresponds with the statement of the leadership regarding the announcement that 2025 has been declared "Year of Community" and reflects the determination of the Dubai government to ensure optimal working conditions that support employees and reinforce societal values during times of special events.

The approved policy envisages the expansion of the application of flexible working hours and the possibility of working remotely throughout the entire month of Ramadan. On each working day, the government structures of Dubai may allow employees up to three hours of flexible working time, providing at least 5.5 working hours from Monday to Thursday and three hours on Friday.

Additionally, employees may work remotely for up to two days a week, taking into account work requirements, assigned obligations, and coordination with direct supervisors to ensure uninterrupted work without reducing productivity or completing routine tasks, considering public interest.

This initiative strengthens Dubai’s efforts to establish a supportive and effective working environment in the public sector, contributing to the welfare of employees and increasing productivity. It also encourages the private sector to adopt similar policies during Ramadan in accordance with each company's operational needs, ensuring uninterrupted business functionality while maintaining the welfare of employees.
