Dubai police arrested nine beggars of all nationalities on the first day of Ramadan as part of a permanent operation to combat illegal activities. Brigadier Ali Salem Al-Shamsi, director of the Department of Criminal Investigations at Dubai Police, stated that the campaign 'Awareness Society, Free from Begging' helps annually reduce the number of beggars thanks to strict control.
On the first day of Ramadan, nine individuals were arrested, including five men and four women, who were reported by Brigadier Al-Shamsi. He also warned the public about the cunning tactics of beggars, such as exploiting children, individuals with limited capabilities, or false claims of financial difficulties to exploit the generosity of people during the holy month.
The campaign targets both personal and online begging, which includes begging at gathering places, markets, mosques, as well as calculating digital schemes of donations. Al-Shamsi emphasized the importance of referring to accredited charitable organizations that provide real support, such as the initiative 'Iftar for Those Who Fast.'
Dubai Police recommends residents not to give money to beggars and to report any incidents through the Dubai Police contact center (901), the 'Police Eye' service in the Dubai Police application, or on the online platform 'E-Reporting.'
