The UAE government has issued a federal decree regulating the industrial and medical use of cannabis to support sustainable economic development. The decree establishes strict rules for the entire supply chain, from importing seeds to manufacturing and distributing products. It allows the use of cannabis in textiles, construction, and for manufacturing approved medical products, while prohibiting its recreational use. Key provisions include mandatory licensing, adherence to THC content limits (not exceeding 0.3%), cultivation in designated, fenced, and monitored areas, and the establishment of a national tracking system for seeds, seedlings, and products. Violations of the rules will result in severe penalties, including imprisonment and substantial fines. This move aims to create a new and promising market in line with global best practices.
