Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, stated on Thursday that humanity "is paying a high price" for its own insecurity.
"We find ourselves at a crossroads of two paths: one leads to the end of poverty, and the other to the sustainability of the planet. We are at a turning point," Guterres added.
The UN chief noted that one of the challenges facing the world community is climate change. "The climate crisis is that challenge to which we cannot simply continue to remain indifferent," he said.
Guterres also emphasized the importance of solidarity in addressing global problems. "Collective responses to global problems require global solidarity. Without solidarity, we can only expect a more painful future," concluded UN Chief Guterres.
