In the sports event "Figueira Championship Classic" in cycling, the Portuguese cyclist António Morgado, representing the UAE XRG team, demonstrated outstanding performance and secured a significant victory, finishing in first place in the evening on Sunday. His attack in the last 21 km forced the competitors to fall behind, and he maintained the lead to the finish, claiming his second victory of the season and securing one for UAE XRG.
As moments of approach to decisive moments, the UAE XRG team exhibited strength in the lead group, where Morgado alongside his teammates, João Almeida and Jan Cristian, was among the favorites for victory. Despite the intense competition on the challenging track of this one-day race, Morgado launched the first attack on the steep climb in Parque Florista, using the moment to start decisively, increasing the gap from the nearest pursuers.
After establishing the tempo, Morgado did not look back, maintaining his advantage of over 30 seconds ahead of his closest competitors. In a comment on his victory, Morgado highlighted that this win means a lot to him, as he had been training hard, believing in his chances of success, and supported the strength of his team, even since last year.
The results of the "Figueira Championship Classic" are as follows: in first place - António Morgado from UAE XRG, with a time of 4:35:37 hours; in second place - Polish Maimy from Soudal Quick-Step +5 seconds; in third place - Mattias Vasic from Deil-Trek, also with a time of 4:35:37.
