60 athletes with high ambitions represent the national team at the 17th edition of the Fazza International Athletics Championship (Grand Prix - Dubai 2026), which kicks off today at the Dubai Club for People of Determination's track. The event is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Olympic Committee and President of the Dubai Sports Council, and runs until next Friday. It serves as a qualifying stage for the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. The 17th edition will see 500 athletes from 56 countries compete. The team tested its readiness by participating in the recent 2026 West Asian Paralympic Games in Muscat, where athletics topped the list of achievements for our champions with nine gold, 12 silver, and 16 bronze medals. In turn, the head coach of the athletics team for people of determination and the coach of athlete Mohammed Youssef, who will represent our country in the wheelchair racing category, Abdullah Al Musharwi, said: 'Our champions are up to the task and ready to compete for the podium.'
