Emirati Driver Rashid Al-Zaabi Continues in Mercedes Program

Emirati driver Rashid Al-Zaabi has officially continued his participation in the Mercedes young driver development program, a move that enhances his competitive career path towards the Formula 1 World Championship. The rising star joined the program in 2025, becoming the sole representative of the Middle East and North Africa within the team's development system, based in Brackley. This program is one of the most prominent in motorsport talent development, having helped numerous drivers reach the highest levels of competition. Among its graduates are current Mercedes drivers Kimi Antonelli and George Russell, along with other drivers who progressed through various development paths to reach the Formula 1 World Championship. Gwen Lagrue, Mercedes' Driver Development Advisor, stated that Al-Zaabi officially joined the program in 2025 after being monitored since his early karting days. He was one of the most prominent novice drivers in the European Alpine Regional Formula series, delivering consistently impressive performances. Lagrue noted that Al-Zaabi's start to the 2026 season was encouraging, achieving top positions in qualifying tests and securing two wins and a second-place finish in the Middle East Regional Formula Cup, giving the team great confidence before the European season begins. His continued participation in the program will grant him access to advanced technical resources, specialized supervision, and comprehensive on and off-track support, enhancing his development in international single-seater categories as he prepares for the start of the European Regional Formula series at the end of April. This announcement comes at a time when the Middle East has firmly established its presence on the global motorsport map, hosting four Formula 1 World Championship rounds annually. Mercedes' continued support for the promising talent from the region is an additional step in developing a future competitor for the premier class.
