Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev, ranked 11th in the world, reached the quarter-finals of the Dubai tournament (500 points) after defeating Chinese player Shang Junchang 6-4, 6-2. Following his victory, Medvedev stated that he would like to see more mandatory tournaments on the schedule, but only Masters and Grand Slam tournaments should count towards the ranking. He believes this would help reduce the burden on players. Medvedev had never faced the 21-year-old Chinese player before, but they also met in the first round of the tournament in Doha last week, where the Russian also won.
