Manchester United will pay around $22 million due to the decision to fire former manager Ruben Amorim. Financial documents revealed that the dismissal of Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim from his role at Manchester United will cost the club approximately 16 million pounds ($21.6 million). This follows the end of his 14-month tenure, which concluded last January 5 amid a public fallout with the club's management. Five of his assistants also left with him. According to documents filed with the New York Stock Exchange, the club listed the payments under a 'subsequent event' category, explaining that 6.3 million pounds represent the write-off of intangible assets related to the contract, plus provisions of up to 15.9 million pounds for potential future settlements, which are partially contingent on the manager securing a new job within a specified period. The accounts also showed that the club paid 6.3 million pounds to Sporting Lisbon as a contractual compensation. It had previously committed to paying 10 million pounds to the Portuguese club upon appointing Amorim as successor to former manager Erik ten Hag, whose departure cost 10.4 million pounds. Estimates suggest the total cost of changes related to Amorim's appointment could reach 37.3 million pounds. During his leadership, Amorim won 25 out of 63 matches, while United's ranking dropped to 15th place, the club's worst since the 1973-74 season. However, the team later improved under current manager Michael Carrick, rising to fourth place after a series of positive results that boosted their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
