French Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike was substituted and carried off on a stretcher during the first half of the match against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 8 second leg on Tuesday after suffering what appeared to be a serious injury. The forward pointed to his Achilles tendon while receiving treatment on the pitch before being stretchered off at Anfield. The injury casts doubt on Ekitike's participation in the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in June and July. Ekitike has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season since Liverpool signed him from Eintracht Frankfurt for 69 million pounds ($93.58 million) last July.
