International football: Lee Carsley, interim coach of the England national team, lost all eight players due to injuries ahead of upcoming matches against Greece and Ireland in the UEFA Nations League. Due to injuries, Arsenal defenders Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka, as well as Chelsea players Levi Colwill and Callum Hudson-Odoi, Manchester City players Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, and Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold and Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, had to decline participation.
In their place, Carsley called up five new players: Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa), who will get a chance to debut for the national team, as well as goalkeeper Bernd Leno from the Championship, Newcastle defender Manuel Liprant, and Jared Branthwaite (Everton) and Jared Bowen (West Ham).
The England national team will play against Greece on Thursday in Athens, and then face Ireland on Sunday. Carsley has transitioned to an interim coaching role after last summer's Euros and will pass the reins to German Thomas Tuchel, who was named head coach by the England Football Federation last month, at the beginning of next year.
