Poetry as a Space to Break Free from Logic

Poetry as a Space to Break Free from Logic

Emirati poet Amal Al-Suhaili describes poetry as a space to break logic and transcend towards the self. She adds: «Through poetry, we try to challenge logic and break free from the ceilings imposed by age».

During an evening organized by the group «Words» as part of the 44th Sharjah Book Fair, she explained that poetic writing is «an act of healing and a search for an additional life», noting that a person, even in the most materialistically occupied moments, needs a poem that expresses them in a moment of loss or weakness.

The author of the collection «I Had to Postpone You» and the book «Welcome to the Night Train — for ideas that sleep», compared poetry to «the widest human space», emphasizing that it is a part of her daily life. She might write it on paper, on a tissue box, or even on her friend's hand if the idea catches her by surprise: «When poetry knocks on the door, I cannot ignore it».
