The Ministry of Economy confirmed that prices for essential goods will not be increased in the upcoming month of Ramadan, even in the event of external changes affecting the prices of imported goods. During an informational briefing held yesterday, the Ministry announced that more than 644 essential trading points in the UAE will reduce prices by up to 65%, including more than 10 thousand products. The daily import size of fruits and vegetables at the Central Vegetable and Fruit Market of Dubai exceeds 15 thousand tons, while the total import for traders in Abu Dhabi is over 6000 tons a day.
"We have recorded that for the past two years all requests regarding price increases, except for 'poultry', came after domestic farms faced bankruptcy and significant losses," reported the Director of Consumer Protection and Market Control at the Ministry of Economy, Sultan Druish.
He also noted that in the upcoming month of Ramadan, more than 424 inspection campaigns across the country will be conducted to check for the availability of staple goods and essential consumer products, as well as to monitor compliance with declared discounts and promotions announced by the trading points.
