DP World Anticipates Growth in Container Capacity

The international seaports of the DP World group expect an increase in the capacity of new container terminals by almost 7.3 million units during 2024 in 11 key markets. According to preliminary data, the total container capacity of DP World worldwide should reach approximately 102.3 million units by the end of 2024 compared to 95 million by the end of 2023.

In the coming days, financial results for the group for 2024 are expected to be announced, including details on new expansions carried out within the global port network in the past year. In 2023, DP World added approximately 1.1 million units of container capacity to the global port network, which indicates significant growth for the group in 2024 due to investments in the expansion of operational facilities.

The expansions in 2024 will cover markets in South Korea (Busan), Indonesia (Belawan), Senegal (Dakar), India (Cochin), as well as Tanzania (Dar-es-Salam), Egypt (Suez), Romania (Constanta), and also in London (Gateway) and Vancouver, and other markets. For DP World, the global container market reached 9.2% thanks to these expansions.

In the past year, the ports of the DP World group processed 88.3 million container units of size 20 feet, which represents an increase of 8.3% compared to the previous year, despite the complex economic challenges and risks relative to the global trading perspective.
