Iranian Attacks on UAE Global Aluminium Facility

Emirates Global Aluminium reported severe damage to its Tuwairah facility due to Iranian attacks. The company expects up to 12 months for full production recovery, highlighting the impact on global supply chains.

Iranian Attacks on UAE Global Aluminium Facility

Emirates Global Aluminium announced today the initial operational assessments following the recent Iranian attacks on the company's site in the Tuwairah area, which is one of the world's largest industrial facilities for aluminum production. The Tuwairah site suffered extensive damage due to Iranian missile and drone attacks on the Khalifa Economic Zone - KIZAD, and the site was completely evacuated with emergency lockdown measures activated, including the aluminum smelter, foundry, power station, the Tuwairah Alumina Refinery, and the Tuwairah Recycling Plant. To ensure the restart of the smelter, Emirates Global Aluminium will need to repair the infrastructure and gradually restart each reduction cell in the smelter. The company anticipates that the full resumption of primary aluminum production could take up to 12 months based on initial damage assessments, though some production at the Tuwairah Alumina Refinery and the Tuwairah Recycling Plant may resume earlier, subject to the final damage evaluation. Abdulla Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium, stated: "We strongly condemn the attack that targeted our employees, who represent over forty different nationalities, while they were performing their daily work duties." Kalban wished a speedy recovery to the injured and said, "Our site in Tuwairah is a cornerstone of the global economy, and this attack will impact supply chains for a number of industries worldwide." He added, "We prioritize the safety and security of our employees and, at the same time, continue our efforts to support our customers around the world, working directly with those whose orders may be affected by the current situation." The Tuwairah smelter produced approximately 1.6 million tons of cast aluminum in 2025. Emirates Global Aluminium holds substantial metal stocks in the UAE and at its sites globally, in addition to numerous maritime shipments. Meanwhile, the Tuwairah Alumina Refinery produced 2.4 million tons of alumina during 2025, equivalent to 46% of the company's total alumina requirements. The annual production capacity of the Tuwairah Recycling Plant is 185,000 tons per year.
