Many pensioners and elderly people, who are not considered citizens of the UAE, have complained about the rise in prices for medical insurance and the increase in its cost, especially if they have chronic ailments or require surgical interventions. They noted that some insurance companies require significant sums, starting from 11 thousand dirhams and reaching 100 thousand dirhams in the case of large operations. Wishing to remain anonymous, they turned to the newspaper 'Emirates Today'.

The chairman of the medical insurance committee in the Union of Insurance Companies of the UAE, Abdulmohsen Jaber, pointed out that insurance companies offer various insurance plans depending on the agreements made with both the employer and the individual if the talk is about net-salary workers. He emphasized that basic insurance coverage is suitable for pensioners with limited financial capabilities.

Abdulmohsen Jaber also explained that medical insurance is mandatory in all emirates of the country and usually the pricing depends on the age of the insured, which is a common practice worldwide. He added that insurance companies study the health status of a person before determining the price, and request certain answers and medical reports to substantiate the cost of insurance.

According to Jaber, elderly people with limited financial resources are recommended to stick to basic insurance covers, as they include everything necessary, and receive treatment in clinics and medical centers, which are less costly compared to hospitals. He emphasized that older adults often have chronic ailments that require more serious treatment and higher expenses on medications, which is also taken into account when calculating the cost of insurance.
