The UAE ministry unveiled a roadmap for Green Intellectual Property to boost technology localization and sustainable innovation, enhancing the country's competitiveness and environmental initiatives.

The Ministry of Economy in the UAE has unveiled a new roadmap for 'Green Intellectual Property (IP)' aimed at boosting innovation, localizing technology, and initiating new projects in green economy, environmental sustainability, and circular economy. The three-month plan is designed to enhance the competitiveness of the UAE's IP landscape and align with its goal to transition to a circular economy.

Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the UAE Circular Economy Council, emphasized the significance of this green IP roadmap in promoting green technology and innovation. He highlighted the UAE's commitment to sustainable practices and the role of intellectual property in building a robust national economy. Al Marri also stressed the importance of leveraging innovation for providing high-quality products and services to the community.

The Ministry of Economy conducted a media briefing to outline the objectives of the new roadmap and its role in driving innovation in sustainable sectors of the UAE's economy. Abdulla Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, underlined the country's historical focus on sustainability and cultural heritage. He revealed plans to increase the percentage of patent registrations for sustainable and environmental innovations to eight percent of the total, along with enhancing legal frameworks for protecting such patents.

Al Saleh expressed the Ministry's intention to collaborate with academic institutions, research centers, and environmental stakeholders to integrate IP into sustainable innovations effectively. The goal is to support inventors and creators in developing eco-friendly projects across strategic economic sectors. The roadmap aims to accelerate the registration of patents related to green technologies and expand partnerships to drive innovation and competitiveness in sustainable industries.

The UAE's achievements in establishing a robust legislative framework to nurture the intellectual property sector were praised, with a focus on enhancing protections for eco-friendly patents. The roadmap aligns with the country's commitment to fostering creativity in sustainable industries, enhancing its global standing in innovation indices like the Global Innovation Index. The Ministry is dedicated to issuing laws to safeguard industrial property and trademark rights, further solidifying the UAE's position as a leader in intellectual property and innovation on the global stage.
