European Airports Warn of Aviation Fuel Shortage

The European Aviation Safety Agency has warned of a potential severe shortage of aircraft fuel within the European Union, if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed for the next three weeks. This could threaten air transport and negatively impact the European economy. The agency clarified that imports from the Gulf region account for about 50% of Europe's aviation fuel imports, making supplies vulnerable to major disruptions if navigation through the strait continues to be disrupted. The agency's Director General, Olivier Jankovic, expressed growing concern among European airports about fuel availability, warning that 'a supply crisis could lead to severe disruptions in airport operations and air connectivity'.
