Zayed National Museum Launches Nationwide 'From the Museum to the Community' Program

The Zayed National Museum, the national museum of the United Arab Emirates, is expanding its presence beyond its walls through a community outreach program titled 'From the Museum to the Community: A Living Cultural Dialogue Between the Emirates of the State'. This initiative moves exhibition halls, artifacts, and narratives to various locations across the Emirates, enhancing direct interaction with communities. Nasra Al Buainain, Director of the Education and Community Engagement Department at Zayed National Museum, stated: 'The 'From the Museum to the Community' program represents an extension of everything we believe in at Zayed National Museum. The museum's narrative is incomplete without people, and our goal is not indoctrination, but to provoke questions and call for dialogue, gathering archaeological discoveries, human experiences, and cultural knowledge within a single context. Every community we visit holds a part of this national narrative, and this program affirms our commitment to ensuring every individual sees themselves within that narrative. Community interaction is not a choice but the foundation from which all our work emanates.' The program kicked off in Dubai with its first session at the Shindagha Museum, the largest heritage museum in the UAE, affiliated with Dubai's Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) on the 9th of this month, where the public gathered to explore the nation's maritime heritage through dialogue sessions and performances. The program will then return to Dubai on the 19th at Souk Madinat Jumeirah for sessions that will address the role of art, symbols, and material culture in shaping identity in the region, along with interactive workshops. After that, the program will move to the Council of Notables in Ajman (on the 29th), then to Al Ain Museum (May 18th), and the House of Wisdom in Sharjah (May 21st), continuing its journey through the rest of the emirates until June.
