Sheikh Ahmed emphasized that maintaining quality in sports requires high standards of medical services, which can only be achieved through compliance with recognized scientific knowledge and international best practices. The congress will be held under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed, conducted by the National Olympic Committee of the UAE, and in cooperation with the Dubai Economic and Tourism Department (DET), the Emirates Physiotherapy Association, and the Emirates Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Association.
The four-day event, taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre, is one of the most significant in the field of sports medicine, shining a light on various aspects related to the health and safety of athletes, consistently researching ways to enhance their physical and psychological well-being. This national initiative of the first kind aims to support young professionals in this sphere, encouraging them to engage in research and discover new horizons in the field of sports medicine and rehabilitation.
High-profile specialists in sports medicine, sports rehabilitation, sports nutrition, and other related medical fields from all over the world will gather at the congress, organized by the National Olympic Committee of the UAE, with the participation of DET, the Emirates Physiotherapy Association, and the Emirates Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Association, attracting representatives from more than 70 countries.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Deputy Prime Minister of Dubai and President of the National Olympic Committee of the UAE, emphasized how the UAE has become a model for developing human potential in various fields, providing first-class platforms and infrastructure for global scientific forums.
The congress opens with a panel discussion titled "The Future of Sports Medicine and Sports Science in the GCC: Opportunities and Challenges," followed by a lecture on the impact of physical activity: "Self-Regulation and Autonomy."
Numerous lectures will be presented in various areas of sports medicine, physical therapy, and sports science, addressing topics such as medical services in marathons, biomechanics, and managing pain perceptions. Other lectures will also explore sports science and physical productivity, considering themes such as Load and Recovery, the use of technology and artificial intelligence, as well as the role of the Global Alliance in promoting physical activity in reducing the risk of chronic diseases.
Among the additional themes is the update on genetic testing for improving sports productivity and assessing the risk of injuries, proactive management of athletes, rehabilitation, and return to sport post-injury (clinical approach based on 450 injury cases), anti-doping and sports ethics, rehabilitation, and return to play.
At the congress, various master classes will also be presented, including "New Trends in Sports Rehabilitation and Identifying Sports Injuries in Athletes through Imaging," "Taking a Step Beyond to Paralympic Games," and "Field Management of Athletes with Injuries."
In this edition of the congress, an award will be launched for young researchers in the field of sports medicine and sports productivity, presented in last year's session by the Emirates Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Association. The award also contributes to developing solutions and best practices that foster further growth in the field of sports medicine.
Sheikh Ahmed welcomed participants of the 38th World Congress of Sports Medicine of the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS) in Dubai, which starts tomorrow. Periodic recommendations emerging from scientific events related to sports will serve as a legacy resource for researchers, specialists, and enthusiasts, opening the door to innovative solutions, sharing experiences, and new insights.
