Dubai Police Unveils Smart Traffic Technologies

Dubai Police has recently introduced advanced smart traffic systems to enhance road safety and monitor traffic violations efficiently. Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, highlighted the significance of these technologies in upholding safety and security on the roads. These systems have the capability to detect various infractions like failure to wear a seatbelt, mobile phone use, and other distractions from driving, even in cases where drivers try to conceal their actions, like using tinted front windows.

The latest advancements in Dubai's camera systems have recorded numerous instances of inattentive driving, which pose serious risks to other road users. To address this issue, Dubai Police has released an awareness video as part of their ongoing traffic safety campaigns under the slogan #Safe_Road_for_All. Major General Al Mazrouei emphasized the severe consequences of driving distractions, citing recent amendments that permit a discretionary 30-day impoundment of vehicles for drivers found distracted by phones or other activities under Decree No.30 of 2023.

The awareness campaign aims to enhance road safety awareness and reduce accidents, particularly severe ones, by educating the public across all sectors. It stresses the importance of adhering to speed limits, maintaining safe distances between vehicles, respecting pedestrian rights, and complying with road safety regulations. These initiatives align with Dubai Police's strategic vision for a safe city, focusing on community well-being, the reduction of traffic incidents, and ensuring that all drivers abide by road laws to prevent accidents.

Among the incidents captured by the advanced camera systems include a woman driving while talking on two phones simultaneously and another individual reading a newspaper while behind the wheel, obstructing their view of the road. These examples underscore the dangers of distracted driving and the critical need for enforcing traffic regulations to safeguard all road users.
