The European Commission updated the rules and standards for hand luggage in the European airspace. These measures will be mandatory for all airlines operating within the European Union.
Changes concern the size of bags that passengers can take with them on board aircraft, as well as a clear definition of the rules for hand luggage items. Now passengers can only take one bag with them, while additional hand luggage can only be taken by those passengers who have purchased business-class tickets or paid for additional baggage.
"The goal is to enhance understanding of the rules, introduce clearer and more specific requirements for airlines and passengers," stated a representative of the European Commission. She also noted that the new rules will help reduce waiting times during registration and boarding, which will increase the overall efficiency of airlines.
