
Recently, school sports have confirmed their importance in identifying promising talents in various sports disciplines. This makes it a primary source for national teams in the coming years. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-Governor of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, announced the launch of the first official release of the School Sports League at the OAE level in March 2024. This will serve as a major starting point for identifying sports talents among OAE children.
In the final of the first season of the School Sports Games, over 2500 students from 350 schools participated in competitions across 10 sports. This year, a continuation of competitions in 12 different types of sports is planned, with winners being awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals in May.
School sports are essential for creating sports generations capable of competing in regional, continental, and international competitions. The connection between school sports and university sports ensures continuous support and development of these talents. Sheikh Saheel bin Butti Al Maktoom, President of the United Educational Institutions of OAE, announced plans for the development of school sports and the discovery of talents, as well as support for their development in conjunction with high world sports standards.
Dr. Said Al-Hassani, President of the Arab University Sports Union, noted that school sports events significantly contribute to increasing opportunities for OAE athletes in competitions at the regional and world levels. Systematic cooperation with institutions, clubs, and other partners facilitates the identification and development of promising talents.
Nura Al-Jassim, President of the Badminton Federation of OAE, highlighted the success of the program for discovering and developing talents, which has led to the emergence of numerous young talents in sports and victories in various competitions. The success of the sports system depends on the formation of a new generation of sportsmen from childhood and supporting them throughout their education.
