Recently, the goalkeeper "Shardzhi" Adeel al-Khosni noticeably proved himself and became a favorite of the fans of the club, especially after he recently led his team to their first title in the Asian Champions League for clubs 2, defeating "Shabab Al-Ahli" in a penalty shootout 5-4 in the quarter-finals match. Despite his bright performances in several games, al-Khosni is not included in the plans of the national team coach - the Portuguese Paulo Bento. His name was not included in the latest list prepared for matches against Iran and North Korea in the qualifying tournament for the World Cup 2026.
Adeel al-Khosni (35 years old) proved to be the most reliable goalkeeper in the Arabian Gulf League in terms of missed goals. His goal was breached only seven times in 16 league matches, surpassing all other goalkeepers, including the leader of the tournament Hamdan Mukabali from "Shabab Al-Ahli", who is second in the number of missed goals - 13 goals. It should be noted that the goal of "Shardzhi" remained impregnable in the eighth round from seven matches, during which one goal was missed by the reserve goalkeeper of the team Hamdan al-Hamadi in a match against "Bani Yas" on the seventh tour, which ended in a victory for "Shardzhi" 4-1, in the only match where al-Khosni missed the goal.
The director of "Shardzhi" Badr Ahmed noted that al-Khosni constantly improves his skills from game to game and deserves a spot in the national team, regardless of the selection of other goalkeepers. He added that Adeel already has experience playing for the national team and possesses greater experience, both at the national and international levels. He concluded that the final decision is made by the coaches, but they hope that Adeel al-Khosni will be among the players representing the colors of the national team OAA.
