The International Energy Agency (IEA), in its latest report "Electricity 2025", forecasted significant growth in the renewable energy sector in the Middle East and across the entire Near East in the coming years. According to the forecast, the production of energy from renewable sources will increase by approximately 14% annually from 2025 to 2027, although it starts from a low baseline, and its share will grow from 5% to 7%.
"Solar PV batteries represent the main source of growth, with their share in the production of energy from renewables increasing by approximately 55% to almost 70% by 2027." - reported the IEA report. The report noted that the MENA region demonstrates significant improvements in solar energy production, with an average annual growth of 23% for solar energy during the period of 2025 to 2027.
According to IEA, the share of nuclear energy in electricity production will increase by 20% year on year by 2024, driven by initiatives being implemented in the MENA region aimed at boosting investment in nuclear energy for diverse and sustainable energy management.
The report also noted that electricity generation, generated from gas, will increase by 2.9% in 2024, remaining the main source of energy in the region, and is projected to accelerate this indicator to an average of 5.3% in the period from 2025 to 2027, as the transition from oil to gas usage continues alongside governmental policies, with the share of gas in energy growing from 68% to 73%.
