The importance of timely and full payment of wages to workers is hard to overestimate. It is good that in the UAE there is a wage protection system (Wages Protection System, WPS) - a system designed to ensure fair treatment of workers, especially with foreign workers, like you.
WPS is an electronic system for transferring wages, launched by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), designed to ensure timely and full payment of wages to workers.
With WPS, your salary is immediately credited to your bank account - safely, reliably, and documentarily. And here is an important point: as MoHRE states, 99% of workers in the UAE already receive their salaries through WPS.
If by the 17th of the month the salary is not paid, the company will be blocked from issuing new work permits and will be subjected to payment restrictions until they are settled.
For foreign workers, WPS provides a hassle-free experience. You know that your salary will be paid on time. Recently, the Ministry expanded WPS coverage, including five professions of domestic workers, particularly in the healthcare sector, trainers, agricultural engineers, repeater maintenance personnel, and public relations officers.
According to the law, your salary must be paid no later than 15 days after the date specified in your contract.
WPS also helps employers to follow labor legislation, creates a more transparent working environment, and builds trust with workers, protecting both sides. It ensures that employees in the private sector receive their full wages on time through banks, exchange points, or other financial institutions authorized by the Central Bank of the UAE.
All companies registered with MoHRE are required to use WPS for processing the salaries of their employees. For many Filipino workers outside the UAE, the salary payment day is not just about collecting wages.
What happens if the employer does not pay on time? If the employer does not pay the salary within the established deadline, the system directs an electronic reminder on the 3rd and 10th day after the payment date.
If your contract does not specify a specific payment date for wages, employers are obliged to pay it at least once a month. In cases of problems arising, the system is on your side. There are no exceptions.
