Many consumers noted that major retail outlets reduced discounts on certain products to 50% during the second week of Ramadan, after the high discounts that were offered in the first week of the month. Consumers expressed through the newspaper 'Al-Emarat Al-Yawm' a desire to return high discounts, so they could have the chance to sample products at affordable prices until the end of Ramadan. They point out that spending on purchasing goods during Ramadan significantly increases compared to other months.
Some representatives in retail outlets stated that some suppliers and manufacturers set specific goals for increasing sales volumes during the month of Ramadan, and to achieve these goals, prices are lowered significantly, but approaching the target leads them to reduce the discount rate. They confirm that maintaining large discounts for more than a week can lead to substantial losses for suppliers and manufacturers.
Consumer Mustafa Abdullaziz noted that a retail outlet discontinued discounts on products up to 40% during the first days of Ramadan and demanded to restore previous discounts for purchasing goods at reasonable prices until the end of the month. He provided an example of a price reduction on rice from 65 to 30 dirhams, and then an increase in price by 40% to 42 dirhams.
Nad'a At-Taheri also noted a decrease in discounts on certain products at the beginning of Ramadan, for example, the price of dates fell from 40 to 20 dirhams, and then rose to 30 dirhams with a 50% discount. She also mentioned the situation with strawberries - initially, prices were reduced from 18 to 8 dirhams, and then raised to 12 dirhams, an increase of 50%.
Many consumers agreed that retail outlets reduced discounts before Ramadan, and then again in the first week of the month, and demanded to restore higher discounts, considering the increase in spending during Ramadan. One of the representatives in the retail outlet confirmed that maintaining higher discounts for more than a week could lead to significant losses for manufacturers or suppliers of products, thus decreasing the level of discounts. Retail outlets usually offer new discounts every week on new products to ensure customer choice. This year's Ramadan is distinguished by high discounts, allowing consumers to choose among various brands of the same product.
