Many people face a lack of interest and apathy at the end of the cold and gloomy winter season due to the lack of sunlight. Dr. Rashid Hamidulin, a psychotherapist, explains that the syndrome of apathy is the absence of feelings, a sense of indifference to what previously brought a person joy and inspiration.
This syndrome can manifest in various ways: from difficulties in performing everyday tasks to a complete lack of interest in life. It is important to understand that apathy can be caused not only by stress or overload but also by more serious mental disorders, such as depression or schizophrenia.
To overcome apathy, one needs to start small. This state is characterized by a feeling of emptiness and a lack of motivation. Usually, the process of developing the syndrome of apathy begins with insignificant signs, such as difficulty in making decisions, decreased activity, and absence of communication.
The psychotherapist advises to dedicate at least a few minutes each day to simple actions that previously brought satisfaction—such as taking walks, listening to music, or reading. For a while, a person may feel that everything around has lost its meaning, and even everyday tasks become burdensome—such as choosing clothes or going to the store.
Regular breaks, taking care of oneself, healthy eating, and avoiding excessive stress help restore energy and refocus on one’s life. It is not worth being afraid to reach out for help from a psychotherapist or doctor if apathy persists or intensifies, as proper treatment and support can help regain motivation and improve overall well-being.
